Principal Engineer - Walmart Pharmacy & Vision

Principal Engineer

Walmart is one of the largest retailers in the United States and the world.

After leaving Swap Health, I decided to take some time to figure out what to do next. I remembered fondly my time with Walmart in the past and decided to apply. I wanted to leverage my experience in health care and continue to help people. Walmart hired me in their Pharamacy and Vision department as a Principal Engineer.

My role as a Principal engineer had me working on all sorts of projects. My biggest project at Walmart was modernizing the in-store pharmacy systems. Together, we converted over 100 legacy C code programs into Go code in addition to migrating over 1K other legacy programs and scripts to modern, maintainable code that will serve as the foundation for future of pharmacy systems. I also worked on design and implementation of the next-generation pharmacy applications such as the core workflow engine and the “Test and Treat” applications.

In addition to my technical work, I also developed process improvements, set up new tools and infrastructure, helped make Go a first-class language for all of Global Tech, and provided mentoring and guidance to junior engineers.

Unfortunately, my time at Walmart ended in 2026. They asked all the engineers in the Hoboken office to relocate to the HQ in Bentonville, Arkansas. I was unable to relocate and thus I left and found a new job here at home.
